Our Experience
Equal Ability has worked across all sectors - voluntary, educational, statutory and commercial - and with organisations of disabled people. Those who deliver Equal Ability's consultancy and training all have personal experience of the barriers disabled people face. In addition to training Equal Ability has been involved in a wide range of projects:
- Creating and providing a video based presentation, alongside extensive staff training to over 10,000 employees.
- Organising an inclusive consultation event for disabled people about the services they need locally.
- Advising a Probation Service on developing a successful traineeship for two disabled trainees, assisting with recruitment and selection, access needs of successful applicants, and the training needs of all staff in disability awareness.
- Running focus groups for disabled people to explore their support and rehabilitation needs in relation to returning to or retaining work, which informed the development of national Joint Investment Planning guidance.
- Advising on the introduction of teleworking in a call handling environment and advising on how to become more accessible and inclusive to disabled people as employees.
- Developing and implementing a strategy to attract, and successfully cater for, more disabled students in a higher education establishment.
- Researching good practice projects to further the employment of disabled people, and their application to our clients' joint strategy.
- Developing national and local guidance for the NHS in employing disabled people, and giving them equal access as patients and customers.
- Writing and publishing two booklets and a poster specifically designed for NHS clinicians, and for non-clinical staff.
- Exploring the use of the European Quality Foundation Excellence Model within a number of cross-sector organisations to embed equality and diversity.
